Acrylic paint, watercolor, crayon, and color pencil on paper – March 13th, 2025.

This work explores the power humans hold over the things they destroy. Using a commonly abused fish – the betta fish – as a symbol of power, one that can only watch as its environment is harmed and cannot speak, displayed by the fish missing a mouth. Each human hand reaching out is grounded by chains, symbolising just how power has changed the human race, completely overcoming it and becoming the main adjective, while two hands pray at the top, using religion as a symbol of greed for power. The fish can be seen as a “God” in this work, showcasing how the humans wish to seek power over something they are blindly destroying, seeking what they want without caring for the consequences. This work is a commentary on the human destruction of the environment to gain and build power.
