Our submissions are currently CLOSED. Please refer below to the both general and specific guidelines.
Please e-mail your pieces to etymosreview@gmail.com, as well as a third-person biography of less than 100 words.
Please refrain from including identifying information within the document itself, including the body and title.
- Include a title and author name/pseudonym with the body of the e-mail;
- Be written in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced (unless needed for proper syntax within a piece);
- Be submitted via .docx or .pdf file – the title should read: Genre-Author Last Name;
- Be submitted in the correct genre and within the relevant word count.
- Fiction and novel excerpt: between 800 and 6000 words;
- Creative non-fiction: between 800 and 6000 words;
- Poetry: 1-3 pieces
- Entries may not include gratuitous violence and/or sex.
- Submitters may include an author’s note or preface – this must be placed under the title in italics.
- The submitter must ensure that:
- Writing and style are engaging and consistent throughout.
- They have edited and proofread the piece – it has few or no grammatical and spelling errors writing conventions are consistent, and facts are accurate;
- It has enough context to be read as a stand-alone piece;
- Content warnings are included under the title for content describing any form of abuse, self-harm, and/or hate speech;
- The piece is original – any sources used are cited in MLA style. Plagiarism will result in both piece and submitter being blacklisted.
- If your work is accepted into the Etymos Review, you are granting the Editors the non-exclusive right to publish the accepted pieces online and on their social media with credit to the author, as well as store it in the archive for as long as the site exists. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please credit the Etymos Review as the first site of publication.
The Etymos Review is a student-run literature & art magazine dedicated to sharing the voices of today’s youth. Our motto, “At the Root of Ourselves,” encourages today’s artists to find that feeling within themselves and share it with the world.
